Ha Noi welcomes more than 118,000 visitors during New Year 2021 holiday

VGP – The capital city of Ha Noi welcomed more than 118,000 tourist arrivals during the New Year 2021 holiday from January 1-3, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

Of the figure, international arrivals with overnight stay (mainly for official and diplomatic purposes) stood at around 4,451, down 89% compared to the same period last year, while domestic arrivals were estimated at 114,000, down 40%. 

Total revenue from tourists were estimated to reach VND302 billion (US$13.08 million), a year-on-year decline of 65%.

Deputy Director of the Ha Noi Department of Tourism Tran Trung Hieu said that in 2021, the local tourism sector will continue to implement domestic tourism stimulus plans and develop specific, detailed and attractive stimulus products to draw visitors, with the aim of welcoming 13-19 million tourist arrivals.

To achieve this goal, the department organized an event to welcome the first delegation of tourists to Ha Noi in 2021 at the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature) relic site. 

The first group of visitors to the capital this year consisted 20 people from Ho Chi Minh City, served by Hanoitourist Travel Company.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of Anh Duong Tours (Dong Da District, Ha Noi) said: "The tourism sector experienced a difficult year in 2020 due to Covid-19. Welcoming the first customers in early days of 2021 gives travel compnanies likes us high hopes in this year."

Meanwhile, Mr. Pham Tien Dung, Director of Golden Tours (Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi) hoped that the pandemic situation will be under control as well as road traffic and at destinations would be safe, so that the tourism sector will have a favorable and prosperous year.

Statistics from the department showed that in response to the tourism stimulus program, accommodation and tourist service establishments proactively offered room and service discounts of 25-50% with many appealing combos and menus. 

Particularly, the 4-star and 5-star hotels arranged many New Year celebration music programs at restaurants to serve tourists at suitable prices for different types of customers.

Discounts offered by hotels helped attract a lot of tourists from cities, provinces and Ha Noi as well to check in, stay overnight and enjoy afternoon tea party.

The average occupancy rate of 1-5 star hotels across the city was estimated at 32.2%, down 53.4% comapred to the same period in 2020.

In 2020, the city welcomed 7.54 million domestic visitors, down 65% from a year earlier. Due to the pandemic which prevents foreign entries, domestic travelers will continue to be a focus of the sector.

The city's tourism sector will continue to prioritize prevention and control of Covid-19 as its important task for recovery in 2021, and called on local travel companies to enhance their cooperation to create a safe and attractive tourism market./.
