Under the plan, two national shopping malls with an area of 500,000 m2 each will be built in the rural districts of Đan Phượng and Thạch Thất, and five wholesale trade centers (150-200 ha each) built in the outskirt districts of Gia Lâm, Sóc Sơn, Chương Mỹ, Thạch Thất and Thường Tín.

New supermarkets will be constructed in new urban areas in the districts of Tây Hồ, Cầu Giấy, Thanh Xuân, Hoàng Mai, Long Biên, Hà Đông, Từ Liêm, Hoài Đức and Đan Phượng and the town of Sơn Tây.

Hà Nội will also establish 2 wholesale markets for agricultural products and foodstuff in Gia Lâm and Thường Tín, and smaller markets of the same kind in the districts of Hoàng Mai, Từ Liêm, Ứng Hòa, Ba Vì and Mê Linh.

The city plans to upgrade some existing markets into shopping malls.

Most of the city’s current 402 markets, supermarkets and trade centers are located in urban districts, getting more and more inconvenient when the demand for lands to build other welfare works surges.
