Ha Noi to pilot electric bike sharing system

VGP - The Ha Noi People’s Committee has agreed to pilot an electric bike service in Hoan Kiem district operated by a smartphone app.

The municipal People’s Committee has assigned the Departments of Planning and Investment, and Transport, and the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem district to work on routes of the electric bike sharing system, as well as relevant regulations.

The electric bicycle is custom designed with a logo of  the capital city and is expected to be launched this year.

The total project investment for the service is VND26 billion (US$1.12 million). The estimated renting fee is VND20,000 (US$0.86) for the first hour or VND200,000 (US$8.62) for a day.

Service providers will use management software while customers can complete rental steps online.

The model aims to make it easier for people to approach public vehicles to get to offices, schools, hospitals and shopping centres.

Now, Ha Noi has about 5.5 million motorbikes and nearly 500,000 cars.

The capital city is developing a public transport system, which aims serve the needs of 30 to 35% of citizens in the inner city and of 15% of citizens in satellite cities.
