Ha Noi students win gold medal at Int'l Math-Science Olympiad

VGP - A delegation of Ha Noi students representing Viet Nam won two gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze medals at the 17th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO 2021) held online by Indonesia, according to Ha N oi’s Department of Education and Training.

Nguyen Tung Lam from Giang Vo Secondary School in Ha Noi and Ha Manh Hung from Ha Noi-Amsterdam High School were named at the closing ceremony in Ha Noi on January 24, after winning a gold medal each in mathematics.

 

Besides the two gold medals, the students also won five silver and four bronze medals each in mathematics and science. All the medal winners, 20 out of 24 entrants, were secondary school students in Ha Noi.

The 17th IMSO was hosted online by Indonesia between January 21 and 24. Participants took the tests in their own countries within a specific time frame due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The contest was broadcast live.

In Ha Noi, the Giang Vo Secondary School was chosen as the venue for the competition. Viet Nam hosted the 16th IMSO in 2019 and the home team won 15 gold, 14 silver and seven bronze medals.

The event is an annual competition for students under the age of 13 worldwide to promote their interest in mathematics and science.
