Ha Noi schools urged to be ready for online learning

VGP – Ha Noi Municipal Department of Education and Training has asked schools to stand ready for online learning if a COVID-19 resurgence occurs.

The city ordered teachers and pupils to strictly implement the Ministry of Health’s 5K (in Vietnamese) message:  khau trang (facemask), khu khuan (disinfection), khoang cach (distance), khong tu tap (no gathering) and khai bao y te (health declaration).

On April 25, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long warned of a possible fourth wave of COVID-19 as regional countries reported the rapid surge of new cases and many citizens fail to implement the ministry’s preventive measures.

Competent agencies and local authorities have taken drastic measures to prevent COVID-19 importation and prepared response plans in case the pandemic spreads widely, especially in the Southwest region, Nguyen said.

On April 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on authorities and individuals to sustain vigilance and uphold the sense of responsibility amid complex evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world while he was chairing a meeting on COVID-19 response.

Chairpersons of provinces and centrally-run cities shall be responsible for ensuring the pandemic prevention and control, observation of preventive measures by organizations and individuals within their administrative boundaries. They shall be considered for penalties if the virus spreads to communities. 

Border localities, especially Southwestern border provinces shall proactively work with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to coordinate with the neighboring countries in strengthening patrols and control of entrants via land and sea borders; be determined to prevent and strictly fine illegal entrants.

One day latter, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam warned of a “very high” risk of COVID-19 resurgence.

Deputy PM Vu, who is also Head of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control tasked high-risk localities, especially Southwestern provinces to strengthen testing capacity while ministries and agencies have to reassess the capacity of both State and civilian quarantine sites to ensure absolute safety and set up plans to expand quarantine capacity in case of infection spikes.

The Ministry of Health was asked to speed up COVID-19 vaccination progress, actively work to diversify sources of foreign vaccine supplies, and accelerate homegrown vaccine research, development and production./.
