The 82 stone steles at the Temple of Literature, the first university of Việt Nam, were recognized as world documentary heritage on March 9 at UNESCO’s meeting in Macau, China.

These steles bear personal information of over 2,000 doctoral laureates who passed the royal examinations between 1442 and 1779 under the Early Lê, Mạc and Restored Lê dynasties.

They form a precious treasure of Việt Nam’s educational history, providing not only general information about 300-year feudal-time education in Việt Nam but also specific details about the royal examination systems./.
