VGP - The Duong River Surface Water Joint-Stock Company held a ceremony on October 13 to inaugurate a factory treating surface water of the Duong River to supply for about one-third of Ha Noi’s population.

In his speech at the ceremony, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung applauded the investor’s efforts to put the plant into use ahead of schedule, adding that it will help improve the living standards and health of local residents.

He asked the company to continue harnessing resources to raise the factory’s daily capacity to 300,000 cub.m. ofwater in the second phase, and prepare to increase the output to 600,000 cub.m. by 2020 and 900,000 cub.m. by2022.

The investment plan for the Duong River water plant was approved with a design capacity of 150,000 cubic metresper day in 2018, 300,00 by 2020, 600,00 by 2023, and 900,00 cubic meters of water in following years.

Phase 1 of the project cost VND5 trillion (over US$214 million) in total, consisting of two main components, including a raw water pumping station, a water plant planned on an area of 61.5 hectares in Phu Dong and Trung Mau communes (Gia Lam districts), and a 76km clean water pipeline route stretching the districts of Gia Lam, Long Bien, Soc Son, Dong Anh, Hoang Mai, and Thanh Tri, and part of Hung Yen province.

Once fully completed, the plant is expected to supply clean water for one third of Ha Noi’s residents (around three million people) and gradually replace the underground water source which has been at risk of pollution.

The plant is hoped to help the capital city gradually replace polluted underground water with surface water to serve local demand.

At the ceremony, work on the second phase of the plant started./.
