Ha Noi named VN’s largest FDI recipient for first time
VGP – 2018 is the first year Ha Noi has been named the top locality nationwide in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, with a total registered capital estimated at US$6.5 billion, as shown in a report of the municipal People’s Committee on the local socio-economic development situation in 2018 and 2016-2018, as well as plans for 2019.

Accordingly, with the 2018 figure, the FDI flow into Ha Noi over the past three years has reached approximately US$13.25 billion, a 2.12-fold increase against the 2011-2015 value and equal to 48.6% of the 1986-2015 figure.
In 2018, Ha Noi has attracted investment mainly in the fields of information technology, the manufacturing industry, real estate and retails/wholesales, with a number of outstanding foreign-invested projects, including a VND94 trillion project on smart city building in Dong Anh district by Japan’s Sumimoto Corporation and BRG Group, a US$92 million OPC drum production project of Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical at Hoa Lac High-tech Park, a VND4.8 trillion Heineken Ha Noi Brewery project in Thuong Tin district by a Singaporean investor, and a VND13.4 trillion Lotte Mall Ha Noi project by the Republic of Korea’s Lotte Group.
Standing Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu attributed the aforementioned positive results to the city’s efforts to improve the business climate, remove bottlenecks for businesses, improve State management in land planning, urban order and environmental protection, and continue enhancing the efficiency of foreign affairs and international integration.
