Farming families and animal husbandry facilities are asked to cleanse and disinfect breeding areas on a weekly basis; and to disinfect means used to transport fowls and poultry products before and after entering in the breeding and hatching areas.

Similar actions should also be taken to ensure the hygenic environment of concentrated poultry slaughterhouses, live fowl markets, and foodstuff stalls.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, since the start of 2012, bird flu outbreaks have been reported in 115 communes, 55 districts, and 21 cities and provinces nationwide, sickening over 95,000 fowls and leading to the deaths and forced culling of more than 214,000 poultry.

A new strain of bird flu virus with no vaccines for it might have penetrated into Viet Nam, so the risk of bird flu spreading is still high.
