Ha Noi implements effective energy-saving solutions
VGP – In order to effectively implement the National Target Program on economical and efficient use of energy, as well as promoting propaganda on economical use of energy, Ha Noi has issued a number of policies to enable agencies and businesses to engage in the mission, and this has brought about initial practical results.

Over recent times, Ha Noi has focused on communicating about economical and efficient use of energy. Regarding response to the Earth Hour campaign alone, the city has saved 1.962 million kWh, equal to VND3.246 billion (US$140,750), during the one hour of light off throughout the country. Ha Noi has also given priority to developing the models of using green energy for key energy-using industrial facilities and construction works according to the city’s criteria.
Ha Noi is a locality with fast urbanization rate, a high number of high-rise buildings and apartments, which entails a high demand for energy consumption. Therefore, the city has long been interested in the efficient use of energy in buildings and public lighting.
As for the transport sector, the city has directed the investment in transport infrastructure in accordance with the approved plans, while promoting high-volume transportation and putting into operation the bus rapid transit (BRT) service. Also, Ha Noi has conducted the pilot operation of three bus routes using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), aiming to reduce the emission of toxic substances into the environment.
Concerning human resource development, the city has supported the building of a Ha Noi center for training energy management officials. In order to ensure businesses comply with the commitments on energy saving, the city has inspected and supervised 146 enterprises which use energy economically and effectively. Establishments have conducted energy audits in accordance with the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy.
The inspection work has helped to communicate the provisions of the law and regulations on economical and efficient use of energy across the city, instruct establishments to address the existing shortcomings and strengthen control and management over the investment projects that use a lot of energy and resources, causing environmental pollution.
