The aforementioned sum was handed over by Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh to the Ministry of Finance at the launching ceremony for the fund on June 5.

The fund has been set up to mobilise social resources for the purchase and import of COVID-19 vaccines as well as for research, development and production of domestic vaccines, and use the vaccine for the people, on the principle of ensuring voluntary donations; public, transparent and lawful operations; and the most favorable conditions for the donation activities.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hailed the fund as that of kindness, solidarity, faith and hearts connecting hearts to jointly overcome difficulties, contributing to creating a victorious Viet Nam in the fight against COVID-19.

With the spirit of urgently and actively implementing the Party and Government’s guidelines, at the launching ceremony, Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee handed over the city’s donations to the national COVID-19 vaccine fund.

As calculated, Viet Nam will need VND25.2 trillion (US$1.09 billion) to buy 150 million doses of vaccine to immunize its 75-million population. In order to have enough money to realize the goal mentioned above, the Ministry of Finance reported to the Prime Minister in Report No. 88 dated May 24, 2021 on the proposal to set up an anti-pandemic vaccine fund. On May 26, 2021, the Government issued a resolution and the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 779 on the establishment of the fund, which is managed by the Ministry of Finance./.
