VGP – In the near future, Ha Noi will attract investment from all economic sectors in the supporting industries (SIs) to increase the number and quality of enterprises operating in the field, according to a plan newly issued by the municipal People’s Committee.

Under Plan No. 94/KH-UBND on a program to develop the local SIs in 2020, Ha Noi targets to have 900 SI businesses by the end of the year, of which 400 firms will have their production systems and products in line with international standards, in addition to a sufficient supply capacity to participate in the global production network of multinational corporations in Viet Nam.

The city will focus on developing the SI areas based on its development needs and advantages, as well as in accordance with the industrial development requirements and orientations of Ha Noi and the country, prioritizing three key areas, including the manufacturing of spare parts, the SIs serving high-tech industries, and the SIs for the garment & textile and leather & footwear industries.

It is expected that by the end of 2020, the industrial production value of Ha Noi’s SIs will account for about 18% of that of the local manufacturing industry, while the index of industrial production (IIP) of the SI areas will expand by over 12% annually.

The measures will see a series of international fairs and exhibitions displaying supporting industry products in Ha Noi organised during 2020, with the events featuring the participation of industrial enterprises nationwide in addition to a number of foreign businesses from Japan, Taiwan (China), Hong Kong (China), and Thailand.

Through the fairs, businesses based in the capital will have the opportunity to improve their competitiveness, be active participants in the manufacturing industry’s global supply chain, while also enhancing the capability of international economic integration, and strengthening connectivity among various firms.

Moreover, the sidelines of the event will see the municipal People's Committee play host to an international seminar that will see approximately 200 representatives from relevant ministries and leaders of supporting industry enterprises participate, along with technological experts from both home and abroad.

To achieve these goals, the Ha Noi People’s Committee will speed up the development of SIs through enhancing the capabilities of SI enterprises in the city and connecting and supporting local SI companies to become suppliers of products to domestic and foreign customers.

In addition, the capital city will support research and development (R&D) and the application of technology in the pilot manufacturing of components, spare parts and materials, while hiring domestic experts to provide direct support and advice to enterprises in receiving technology transfer and purchasing copyrights, patents and software.

Also, Ha Noi will assist SI firms in renovating equipment and applying advanced and modern technologies into production, aiming to help increase productivity and improve the quality of their products.

In order to effectively implement the program, the capital city will organize working delegations to inspect and supervise activities on supporting industry development in the city, ensuring the practicality, efficiency, non-overlapping and accordance with the law.
