Ha Noi attracts US$ 141 million in FDI in January

VGP – Ha Noi attracted over US$141 million in foreign direct investment, including 68 new projects with registered capital of US$30.2 million in January, according to the city Department of Planning and Investment.

Director of the city Department of Planning and Investment Nguyen Manh Quyen said the total number of enterprises in Ha Noi is now 281,228. 

He said that trade activities were developing well, ensuring goods circulation to serve consumers' demand during the lunar New Year festival. 

Meanwhile, export turnover of goods was estimated at US$1,041 million, down 20.2% from the previous month and down 17.4% from the same period last year. 

The industrial production decreased by 24.9% from the previous month and by 14.2% from the same period in 2019, as January had lunar New Year festival, thus leading to falling production.

Last year, Ha Noi attracted US$7.5 billion worth of FDI, the highest among the country’s 63 cities and provinces, and more than twice as much as the 2017 figure.

Eighty percent of the city’s projects were wholly owned by foreign investors. The remaining were associate and joint venture businesses.

Most of FDI capital flowed into property development (29.5% of the total), processing and manufacturing industry (20.1%), and telecommunication and information (11.5%).

Japan was Ha Noi’s largest investor with total capital of US$10.2 billion. The followers included Singapore (US$6 billion) and the Republic of Korea (US$5.5 billion).
