VGP – The Ha Noi Department of Education and Training has recently published an official list of wholly foreign-owned schools and private schools with foreign curriculum which are currently operating across the city.

As of August 2019, Ha Noi reports 25 wholly foreign-invested schools, including 14 preschools and 11 high schools, registered to the municipal Department of Education and Training. Besides, there are three kindergartens with both Vietnamese and foreign investment.

At present, some schools jointly established by the Ministries of Education and Training and of Foreign Affairs, including such as UNIS, Alexandre Yersin, HIS and Japan, are carrying out procedures to register their operations with the Ha Noi Department of Education and Training in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 86.

The department said that the wholly foreign-owned schools managed and licensed by the agency have basically operated in accordance with the law, ensuring the publicity of training activities and the quality of training to the parents on the school websites, and sending periodic reports to the Ha Noi Department of Education and Training and relevant departments, such as the Department of Finance and the Department of Planning and Investment. The staff of teachers have all met the requirements concerning qualifications, work permits and other legal papers.

Currently, there are two additional types of private schools operating in the capital city. The first one is the Viet Nam-invested schools which register with international organizations to become those teaching international curriculum. These schools are recognized by international organizations and licensed to become their member schools in Viet Nam, such as the English Cambridge baccalaureate program and the IB international baccalaureate program.

The second type is the private schools that teach a number of subjects under foreign programs, or teach the foreign-integrated programs, which are appraised and licensed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

Ha Noi currently has 39 schools in these two forms, including 24 high schools and 15 preschools.
