VGP – The “Viet Nam – Ha Noi Goods Week 2017” is a significant trade promotion activity between Ha Noi and Japan, which has been launched recently in Japan’s Saitama Prefecture, coinciding with the official visit made to the East Asian country by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The event is part of Ha Noi’s investment, trade and tourism promotion program in Japan for 2017, affirming the city’s viewpoint to constantly treasure and actively accelerate multifaceted cooperation with Japan, as once announced by Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung.

Participating in the Goods Week, Ha Noi businesses introduced the city’s representative commodities in the fields of garment, leather and footwear, handicraft and fine art and agricultural produce processing, in combination with advertising the image of Ha Noi’s investment, trade and tourism through publications and catalogues.

In addition, product demos, art performances as well as cultural and cuisine introduction activities were also organized by the city.

Ha Noi has reached a consensus with Japan’s AEON Group to develop the Goods Week into an annual event in Japan, starting from next year.

The Ha Noi People’s Committee also signed a US$4 billion cooperation agreement with BRG Group and Sumitomo Group on the development of the Nhat Tan – Noi Bai City urban project, in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during his official visit to Japan.

The agreement aims to build a smart city to the north of Ha Noi (along the two sides of Vo Nguyen Giap Street), which is part of the construction planning for the two sides of the Nhat Tan – Noi Bai route.

The move has demonstrated Japanese investors’ interest in Ha Noi as well as Ha Noi’s efforts in promoting cooperative relations with Japan.

Ha Noi attracted US$3.11 billion in foreign direct investment last year, which was 2.93 times more than the 2015 figure, exceeded the plan set for 2016 and was the highest over the past five years.

Japan is currently the largest foreign investor in Ha Noi with over 800 projects worth US$5.2 billion. The East Asian country is also Ha Noi’s third largest trade partner, with two-way trade reaching nearly US$4 billion.
