Festival of mountainous region opens

VGP - A festival on the colors and fragrances of the northern mountainous region was launched on November 21 at the Viet Nam Culture and Arts Exhibition Centre at No. 2 Hoa Lu Street in Ha Noi.

Under the title “Sparking colors and fragrances of the northern mountainous region,” the festival comprised numerous unique artistic performances from Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Bac Giang, Son La, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Vinh Phuc and Ha Noi.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said the festival aimed to mark the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23) and honored tangible and intangible cultural heritages of ethnic groups in the northern mountainous region. 

The event also targeted to educate the young generations on preservation and development of cultural heritages.

It included an exhibition on cultural colors of northern mountainous ethnic groups, folk singing and dancing, a show of traditional costumes and a cuisine festival.

The daily activities of people in the mountainous region, the wedding ceremony of Dao Do (Red Dao) ethnic people and the maturity ritual for growing-up boys of San Diu ethnic people would be re-enacted during the event.

The event will run until November 23./.
