EU supports HN to build smart city

VGP – Milan stands ready to share experience with Ha Noi in smart city building, said Italian Ambassador to Viet Nam Cecilia Piccioni.

Chairman of Ha Noi’s People Committee Nguyen Duc Chung hosted a reception for Ambassador Bruno Angelet, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Viet Nam on June 13 in Ha Noi.

The reception also drew the attendance of representatives from the department for regional and urban policy (DG REGIO) which is responsible for the EU Commission's policies on regions and cities; and others from Milan (Italy), Kosice, Slovakia, Italian and Slovakian Embassies to Viet Nam.  

During the meeting, delegates discussed the World Cities program in which Ha Noi and HCMC were selected to work with the EU to improve infrastructure.

The € 700,000 World Cities project was managed by the DG REGIO under the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium. It targets to promote experience sharing among the EU and non-EU member states on sustainable urban development. Accordingly, on the basis of geographic and socio-cultural similarities, Milan (Italy) and Kosice (Slovakia) were selected to couple with Ha Noi and HCMC to share practical experience on urban smart construction.

Ambassador Bruno Angelet took the occasion to learn about development trend of Ha Noi in the coming time and share achievements of Milan and Kosice in urban development. He also hoped that the two sides will put cooperative portfolio of the World Cities program into practice.

Chairman Chung wished to learn development lessons from other European urban areas.

According to the Chairman, in the coming time, Ha Noi will prioritize transport infrastructure, human training, administrative reform, especially IT application to administrative reform.

He also said that Ha Noi hoped to shake hands with Italian and Slovakian businesses in health care, administrative reform, and infrastructure design as Ha Noi was in the very first period of building smart city./.
