CPI picks up 1.23% in December
VGP – The consumer price index (CPI) saw a month-on-month increase of 1.23%, with ten out of 11 groups of goods and services subject to calculation experiencing price hikes, the Ha Noi Statistics Office reported.

The group of restaurants and services saw a month-on-month increase of 3.5%; transport up 0.49%; beverage and tobacco up 0.43%; housing, electricity, water, fuel, building materials up 0.18%.
The Ha Noi Statistics Office reported that average CPI growth rate in 2019 experienced a year-on-year increase of 3.77%, lower than the 2018 rate of 4.2%.
The Office attributed the higher CPI to increasing cost of food (up 5.9%) and growing labor prices. The group of housing, electricity, water, fuel, and building materials also picked up 4.53%.
Medical and healthcare prices experienced a year-on-year growth of 4.12% due to price adjustments of healthcare services in accordance with Circular 13/2019/TT-BYT, dated July 5, 2019. The educational group saw a year-on-year price hike of 9.38%.
In December, gold prices dropped by 0.6% against the previous month. USD prices experienced a slight decrease of 0.09%./.
