Capital to inoculate 91,000 people with AstraZeneca vaccine

VGP – Up to 91,000 people from four prioritized groups in Ha Noi will receive AstraZeneca vaccine against coronavirus in the third and fourth phases of the national vaccination campaign, according to the municipal Health Department.

According to the Health Department’s Plan 8711/KH-SYT on vaccination for four prioritized groups issued on June 8, the first group (54,193 people) comprises those who had received the first jabs earlier. The second group consists of 11,266 staff at medical facilities who have yet been vaccinated. The third group covers frontline workers. Vulnerable people to COVID-19 infections including workers at industrial parks and processing zones at Me Linh, Dong Anh, and Soc Son districts (about 7,000 people) belong to the fourth group. The inoculation period will run from June 8 to the end of July.

Deputy Director of the Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh reported that since June 3, 22 new infections have been reported including seven cases in the community, eight others at quarantine camps, one case of a health worker, three cases at the National Cancer Hospital (K Hospital), two cases at the second facility of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Kim Chung commune, and one imported case. 

Since April 24 when the fourth wave of COVID-19 resurgence broke out, 119 domestically-transmitted cases were detected at 19 districts and towns. So far, the local authorities have imposed lockdown on 101 areas in which 83 were already removed and 18 others remain in place at ten districts. 

According to Mr. Hanh, since the fourth wave, 179,951 PCR- Realtime samples have been collected. Up to 20 quarantine camps for F1 (people who have contact with COVID-19 patients) were set up at 19 districts with 11,611 slots. At present, 2,263 F1 people are being kept at quarantine camps. A list of 32 centralized quarantine sites have been composed with 8,144 slots. The list will be expanded towards over 40,000 slots in the coming time. 

Earlier, Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Chu Ngoc Anh handed over VND100 billion (US$4.36 million) to the Viet Nam Fund for Vaccination Prevention of Coronavirus Disease 2019 on June 5 evening.

According to Chairman Chu, the city would earmark VND1 trillion (US$43.6 million) to buy COVID-19 vaccine for its citizens. /.
