Chairman of the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung announced the ambitious plan on August 10.

Chairman Chung tasked his inferiors to encourage travellers who returned from Da Nang from July 8 to fill in health declaration forms and those who returned from July 15 to take PCR tests.

Mr. Chung asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to receive test kits and allocate the equipment to districts afterward.

The Ha Noi Party Committee will form 16 groups to investigate disease prevention.

So far, Ha Noi confirmed nine positive cases.

Over 800 people stranded in tourist hotspot Da Nang due to its Covid-19 outbreak are expected to land in Ha Noi on August 12-13 and be quarantined upon arrival.

The capital city’s High Command said at a Monday meeting on Covid-19 prevention that the passengers will be quarantined at the military school under the High Command in Son Tay Town, 35 km west of Ha Noi's center, upon arrival.

All passengers and flight crew will wear protective gears and have their temperatures checked before boarding the plane. The planes will be disinfected afterward.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and budget carrier Vietjet Air will transport the passengers on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

The tourists have had to remain in Da Nang since July 28 when it went into a semi-lockdown and suspended all means of transportation in and out of the city./
