The Ha Noi Department of Industry and Trade reported that total value of goods for the upcoming Tet holidays would be VND 26 trillion (US$ 1.14 billion), up about 10% from the plan for Tet in 2017.

The Department would facilitate domestic enterprises to sell products at Spring fairs to prepare for the Tet holidays. In addition, 150 mobile markets will be held to bring goods to rural and outskirt areas, industrial and processing zones. More stores offering goods at stable prices will be opened to serve rising demand ahead of the holiday.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Health, and the Public Security Force will tighten investigations into food hygiene at production sites.

At a meeting on Tet goods supply and demand on January 8, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai said Ha Noi should also step up examining goods origin and quality.

The city has prepared about 193,600 tons of rice, 50,000 tons of pork, 14,000 tons of chicken, 13,800 tons of beef, and 200 million poultry eggs to serve local consumers during the biggest traditional festival.

General Director of the Hanoi Trade Corporation (Hapro) Vu Thanh Son said his firm has prepared over VND 1 trillion (US$ 43.9 million) worth of goods for Tet. Its stores will remain open until the Lunar New Year’s Eve, and some around Hoan Kiem Lake (Sword Lake ) will be ready to serve consumers throughout the holiday./.
