Accordingly, tourism firms operating in the capital have begun launching tours to nearby destinations for short daytrips in an effort to meet the demands of tourists while simultaneously implementing COVID-19 prevention and control measures in line with regulations.

Most notably, the Ha Noi Department of Tourism is keen to press forward with developing a variety of tourism products, such as heritage tourism, eco-tourism, agricultural tourism, health care tourism, and tourism based arounds sporting and cultural events as the COVID-19 pandemic has been brought under control nationwide.

Moreover, Ha Noi will continue striving to build a safe, friendly, and civilised tourism environment for guests to enjoy, whilst making efforts to improve the quality of human resources, apart from strengthening the dissemination of information and co-operation to increase the number of domestic tourists.

Experts estimate that it will take at least two months for the number of domestic tourists to rebound and at least six months for the figures of international visitors to begin to make a recovery.

The Department of Tourism said it will focus on tourism products which are Ha Noi‘s strengths, such as heritage tourism, ecotourism and agro-tourism when COVID-19 is brought under control.

The sector will also work to further promote the city’s image as a safe, friendly, and civilized destination, and improve human resources quality.

Night-time economy is expected to help develop Hanoi tourism, according to tourism experts and policymakers.

The Ha Noi Old Quarter, located in the downtown in Hoan Kiem district, is the most popular destination in the capital city. Tourists come here to explore ancient streets, craft products, local food, or experience lives there.

In the evening, streets become more crowded and lively with Hang Dao – Dong Xuan night fair and outdoor music performances.

Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic remains complicated in Europe, America, and other markets regionally, the disease has been successfully brought under control in Viet Nam, facilitating a faster recovery for the domestic tourism market.

Between January and May 2020, Ha Noi’s tourism sector earned over VND 16.6 trillion (US$715 million), a sharp reduction compared to the same period last year.

However, it was still an encouraging figure, as both the national and global economies have been adversely impacted by the pandemic.
