VGP - The capital city of Ha Noi served more than 13 million tourists in the first five months of 2018, a year-on-year rise of 10%, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

The capital city welcomed some 3 million foreign visitors in the period, up 26% year on year. They came from nearly 190 countries and territories with the biggest tourism markets included China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, France, the U.S. and Germany.
Apart from traditional tourism products, the capital is carrying out a series of tourism projects such as Huong Son relic site, Viet Nam Museum of Ethnology, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ngoc Son temple and building a cultural, tourism and amusement park, and a national exhibition centre in Dong Anh district, a sport park in Quoc Oai district, and preserving and promoting values of Bat Trang ceramic village and Van Phuc silk weaving village.
The department attributed the increase to development investment and planning of tourism products, expanded tourism promotion and improved quality of tourism products.
Ha Noi has invested in building 20 four- and five-star hotels to meet the increasing demand for accommodation.
The sector will hasten the upgrading of infrastructure and plans to develop Bat Trang pottery village and Van Phuc silk village, and carry out a planning scheme to turn Ba Vi-Suoi Hai site into a national tourism site by 2025.
The department will also support businesses in tourism promotion both inside and outside the country, while inviting travel agencies to participate in domestic and international tourism events.
The city spent US$2 million promoting its image in the American Cable News Network (CNN). It also developed a system of shopping and food services for customers and updated the list of shopping, trade centers and supermarkets on in the internet.
The capital city of Ha Noi is striving to welcome 5.5 million foreigners among over 25.4 million tourists in 2018, confirming itself as an attractive destination in the region and the world.
