27th In’l Biology Olympiad opens in Ha Noi

VGP - The 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) kicked off in Ha Noi on July 17 with the participation of over 264 students from 71 countries and territories, the biggest of its kind so far.

 

 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha said that Viet Nam has successfully hosted many international Olympiads such as the Asian Physics Olympiad in 2004, the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2007, the International Physics Olympiad in 2008 and the International Chemistry Olympiad in 2014.

The hosting of the IBO 2016 shows the international community has recognized and believed in the development of Vietnam’s education, Minister Nha said.

The IBO 2016 offers an opportunity for teachers and students to strengthen co-operation, share experience and promote the spirit of learning and research of Biology, while creating opportunities to expand relations and scientific capacity building for the community of Biology worldwide, the minister affirmed.

According to Poonpipope Kasemsap, President of the International Biology Olympiad, this year’s questions will be related to the host country’s biological diversity.

Together with theoretical and practical exams, students and teachers of the IBO 2016 will have chances to visit and learn about Viet Nam’s cultural and tourist attraction sites during the week-long event.

The IBO was first organized in 1990 with the participation of six countries.

The IBO 2015 was held in Denmark with 61 participating countries./.
